Lead Battery Scrap
Like aluminum and steel, lead is almost a 100 percent recyclable metal. Over 1
million metric tons of lead is recycled throughout the U.S. each year and even
though recycling rates of lead are greater than that of other materials, with more
awareness, the numbers could be much higher.
Lead is a material which is very easy to recycle and is still a low cost material to
manufacturers compared to other metals even with the price of lead doubling over the
past decade.
Today, the major use of lead is for lead-batteries. Nearly 100 million lead-acid car
batteries are produced every year in the United States. Automotive batteries are in
high demand across the world, and lead bricks are used as a common shielding
material to contain radiation.
Even with an increase in recycling awareness, a large amount of lead still ends up
in landfills and continues to be a challenge for policy makers due to health
concerns associated with lead exposure. Lead Battery Scrap is a hazardous waste and
requires a careful recycling process.
With a constant demand for lead, especially in the automotive industry, recycling
efforts will continue to increase with the primary goal to reduce waste, conserve
energy and provide a cleaner environment.
UEG will only sell lead battery scrap wet or dry to licensed lead battery scrap
importers.
